The 6 th Beijing International Seminar on Tibetan Studies

                                          --First Round Announcement

 

Dear colleagues,

The 6 th Beijing International Seminar on Tibetan Studies will be held at China Tibetology Research Center (Beijing, China) in August, 2016. Seeing Inheriting Culture and Serving Society as its main purpose, this seminar gives scholars an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on latest research results of Tibetan studies in recent years. The seminar will be hosted jointly by China Tibetology Research Center, China Association of Preservation and Development of Tibetan Culture and Tibet Academy of Social Sciences. The seminar will be held in Beijing for three days. After the seminar, there will be a field investigation at Mount Wutai in Shanxi Province.

I. Basic Information

  1. Registration date: Monday, August 1 st

  2. Seminar date: August 2 nd to August 4 th

  3. Location: China Tibetology Research Center, Beijing, China

  4. Field investigation date: August 5 th to August 7 th

  5. Departure date:

      August 5 th (scholars who do not take part in field investigation)

      August 7 th (scholars who take part in field investigation)

  6. Registration charges (50% discount for students):

      250 US dollars/person

II. Seminar Regulations
  1. Chinese, Tibetan and English are three official languages of the seminar and participants can choose one official language to present a paper which is subject to a time limit of 20 minutes.

  2. If a panel or round table discussion is proposed, participants are expected to make an application before October 30 th , 2015 and submit a brief description no less than 500 words including panel topic, names of the proposed participants in your panel and their contact information.

  3. Participants should not present papers that have been read at other conferences or published elsewhere. All papers should be the results of original research. Papers should be based on primary sources in original languages or should otherwise provide a substantial advance in the field of Tibetan studies.

  4. All participants are required to submit an abstract of their papers by October 30 th , 2015. Since the seminar will prepare a handbook of abstracts in Chinese, Tibetan and English, participants are strongly recommended to provide abstracts in two or three above mentioned languages in order to ensure translation accuracy.

  5. All abstracts will be examined by the Paper Review Committee of The 6th Beijing International Seminar on Tibetan Studies, in which it consists of senior experts on Tibetan studies. Before December 31 st 2015, we will send the second round announcement together with an invitation letter to those who are accepted by the seminar.

  6. Those who only wish to attend the seminar as observers, like students, should submit an approximately 750-word description of their current state of work and research interests as well as two letters of recommendation from their academic institution and an expert by October 30 th , 2015. Observers also have to pay registration fee (250 US dollars, but students only pay half).

  7. The hosts of the seminar will cover the costs of accommodation and meals during the seminar. However, participants should bear the international travel costs and registration fee. Those who wish to take a field investigation at Mount Wutain of Shanxi Province should pay an extra 200 US dollars for basic cost of accommodation and transportation. Food will be provided by the China Tibetology Research Center.

  8. All participants are requested to take care of their own visas, health insurance and liability insurance. An invitation letter for visas will be provided by China Tibetology Research Center if required. If you need any help in terms of visa application, please e-mail us your name (in accordance with your name on passport) and your passport number. We will send you a recommendation letter to help you to obtain your visa.

  9. To avoid disunity in Chinese-Tibetan-English translation of your names, please specify your name in Chinese, Tibetan and English in the registration form. Please make sure you give us detailed contact information (including your employer, telephone number, fax number, E-mail address, and passport information) so that we can get in touch with you in time.
